“CERP’s FO program is focused on understanding how firms and organizations operate in the context of an emerging economy like Pakistan and alleviating their constraints in contributing towards sustained and equitable growth.”

This program covers a wide range of research areas ranging from understanding firm and organizational behavior to examining individual decision-making and beliefs. The tools utilized by CERP range from microeconomic theory and behavioral economics to econometric analysis of detailed micro-level data sets. In practice we draw upon the field of micro economic and contract theory, industrial organization, corporate finance, organization behavior, behavioral and experimental economics, and mechanism/market design. While motivated by fundamental research questions, the ultimate applications of these studies have a strong policy component to them.

Example projects under this program has included the examination of how firms and organizations operate in relational networks, how firm borrowing and financial health is affected by liquidity shocks, how private entrepreneurship is affected by market conditions that affect supply side factors and informational asymmetries, and how the organizational design of firms incentivizes workers. In addition, program members have also examined individual self-control and temptations in decision making and cognitive biases affects of market behavior.
