Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab more commonly known as J-PAL was established in 2003 as a research center at the Economics Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since then, it has grown into a global network of researchers who use randomized evaluations to answer critical policy questions in the fight against poverty.J-PAL’s mission is to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is based on scientific evidence, and research is translated into action .Its main operational activities include conducting rigorous Impact evaluations, policy activities and capacity building.J-PAL is organized both by regional offices and by research themes called Programs. J-PAL’s headquarters is a center within the Economics Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with independent regional offices in Africa, Europe, Latin America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia that are hosted by a local university. J-PAL’s Programs include Agriculture, Education, Environment and Energy, Finance, Health, Labor Markets, and Political Economy and Governance

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 with the aim of promoting the progress of science advancing national health, prosperity, and welfare and securing national defense. The NSF’S stated goal is discovery, learning, research infrastructure and stewardship to provide an integrated strategy to advance the frontiers of knowledge, cultivate a world-class, broadly inclusive science and engineering workforce and expand the scientific literacy of all citizens.With an annual budget of about $7.0 billion (FY 2012), The NSF  is the funding source for approximately 20 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America’s colleges and universities In the past few decades, NSF funded researchers have won more than 200 Nobel Prizes as well as other Honors.

International Growth Center

International Growth Center

The International Growth Centre (IGC) aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research. Based at LSE and in partnership with Oxford University, the IGC is initiated and funded by DFID.The IGC has 14 active country programmes in 13 countries (Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, India (Bihar state and Central), Liberia, Mozambique, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia) as well as 10 research programmes spanning topics such as trade, agriculture, macroeconomics and human capital. The organizational structure of the IGC spans a London hub, country offices in partner countries, the 10 research programmes with participation from academics in world-class institutions, a network of policy stakeholders in the developing world and a range of public, civil society and private sector partners.

 

The IGC programme in Pakistan is currently directed by by Ijaz Nabi. The program supports the federal and provincial governments and civil society via its analytical policy work on the themes of macroeconomic growth, firm capabilities, state capabilities, and urbanization.

International Initiative for Impact Evaluation

The International Initiative for Impact evaluation also known as the 3ie works to increase development effectiveness through better use of evidence in developing countries. Its aims include: generate new evidence of what works, synthesize and disseminate this evidence, build a culture of evidence-based policy-making and develop capacity to produce and use impact evaluations.3ie carries out a range of activities in both its roles as a funding agency as well as a knowledge broker. These include Impact Evaluation Programmes, Systematic Review Programmes, Quality assurance services and Policy influencing activity.
