Profile: Anum is a part of the Punjab Economic Opportunities Program (PEOP) at CERP which works to promote poverty alleviation through skills training and labor market opportunities with a focus on the labor force participation and empowerment of women. Before joining CERP, she worked as an economic consultant in London on a variety of projects in the health and media and technology space. She also keeps an eye on the education sector and has previously worked for a Lahore based NGO in trying to build workplace skills among university graduates in Pakistan. Her other interests include: women's issues (her MPhil thesis looked at the quality of female leisure time in Pakistan), environmental degradation (and the responsibility of economists in relation to it), religion, fitness (always trying to find good running spaces in Lahore), food (baking, breads, brunch) Anum has a BSc. (Hons) in Economics from LUMS and an M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge.

Previously she has led the Procurement Project that aimed to test incentives vs. Relaxing rules approach to incentivize bureaucrats to achieve financial efficiency. Her expertise lies in designing and executing evidence-based policy and programs to improve service delivery and impact. Before CERP, she has been involved in Education Design and impact programs at World Bank, Washington DC. Maroof A. Syed

 Maroof A. Syed is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP). He has over 19 years of entrepreneurship, investment and leadership experience in multiple sectors. Maroof’s public policy interests include Innovation for Economic Development, Data Analytics and Decision Sciences, and Governance. He combines academic work in public policy, engineering, and economics with extensive experience in leading organizations and building teams. Maroof was a co-founder and Managing Partner at Karnybo Group, responsible for leading global investment strategy in pre-IPO technology companies. Prior to that, he served as Senior Director at Broadcom Corporation driving revenue growth, strategic customer engagements and product development. Maroof also held senior technical and management positions at Silicon Spice (later acquired by Broadcom), Texas Instruments and Dialogic (acquired by Intel). 

Maroof serves as a Director of Pakistan Strategy and Development at Harvard’s Evidence for Policy Design (EPOD) center and is the 2017 recipient of the Lucius N. Littauer Award from the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS). He is on the board of several NGOs including Pakistan Innovation Foundation (PIF) and a Charter Member of Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America (OPEN-Boston). Maroof has a B.S. in Computer Systems Engineering from Rensselaer (RPI) and a Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

 Profile: Bakhtawar Ali is a Junior Research Associate at CERP (Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan). At CERP Bakhtawar has worked as an Intern studying the impact of flooding on agricultural productivity and farm size in Pakistan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and master’s degree in Applied Statistics and Operations research from the University of Punjab, Pakistan. He previously worked with Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and Pakistan Television Network (PTV). He is currently working with the Government of Pakistan and Precision Agricultural Development’s (PAD) project “Agriculture Extension 2.0”
