Technology for People Initiative

Technology for People’s Initiative (TPI) is a joint venture between Google and The Lahore University of Management sciences. It was launched in April, 2012 and is funded by Google under the Internet and Society Initiative. It is dedicated to using technology to create solutions relevant to the socio-economic context of Pakistan and will focus on leveraging technology in the domains of public policy, governance, poverty alleviation and improvement in quality of life.

 

The center is interdisciplinary in nature, bringing together resources from multiple disciplines such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Economics and Social Sciences to create comprehensive and deployable solutions. Past problems include mauza level mapping, crime visualization on maps and analytics for courtrooms.

Consortium for Development Policy Research

Consortium for Development Policy Research

The Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR) is a non-profit association of policy researchers based in Pakistan that aims to consolidate resources and organize informed debate on key policy issues. Its participatory organizations include the Center for Economic Research Pakistan (CERP), the Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives (IDEAS), the Pakistan office of the International Growth Centre (IGC) as well as other leading Pakistani economists.IGC, CERP and IDEAS have effectively tapped into the growing pool of well-trained economists in the country with exposure to policymaking at the highest level and research output published in leading academic journals. By combining their resources, CDPR intends to move beyond their individual capacity to disseminate research findings and provide project support, and help identify logistical and intellectual principal investigators for research projects. The Consortium will have a key role in advocacy and information dissemination via engagement with policy makers, media and other stakeholders using multiple avenues such as workshops, dialogues, seminars and regularly published high-quality policy briefs etc.

Based on the results for the year ended 31 December 2013, the credit rating company PACRA upgraded the long-term entity rating of Tameer to “A+” (Single A Plus) [Previous: “A”] while maintaining the short-term rating at”A1″ (A One) as of February 27th, 2014.
