Social Policy and Public Goods
“The program aims to take a comprehensive approach towards social policy looking at the demand side—households, parents, children—and the supply side–schools, teachers, health providers, government institutions, and public policy.”
This research program encompasses research on education, health, social protection and other public goods provision. The program aims to take a comprehensive approach towards social policy looking at the demand side households, parents, children and the supply side schools, teachers, health providers, government institutions, and public policy. The program will combine economic theory, exhaustive field research, large scale surveys, and policy experiments to produce peer-reviewed research papers, frame public debate, and inform policy decisions.
Extensive research studying the private education market has been done by CERP under the LEAPS (Learning and educational Achievement in Punjab) umbrella. Other empirical work includes a broad based empirical evaluation of recovery from the 2005 earthquake. The Social Policy and Public Goods research theme will also explore critical issues in Pakistan such as gender studies, fertility and family planning, and the effectiveness of income support programs.
